Cause of January 1 Electric Outage Determined
Spencer Municipal Utilities (SMU) electric customers experienced an outage on Friday, January 1st for approximately two hours that was caused by a broken ground wire on one of the main service feeds to our community.

Phase I of the water plant construction has been completed and the SMU Board of Trustees recently awarded a bid for construction on Phase II of the water plant. This is the final phase of the water plant construction.

With construction continuing on Spencer Municipal Utilities (SMU) Water Treatment Facility, and water being treated and supplied from the 32nd Avenue Pump House rather than the Water Treatment Facility through the next few days, SMU water customers may experience some rusty water.
2015 SMU Water Quality Report Available
The latest edition of Spencer Municipal Utilities’ annual Consumer Confidence Report on water quality has been prepared and is being distributed electronically again this year at www.smunet.net/2015ccr.php. This is the third year for electronic distribution, rather than mailing directly to customers.
SPENCER MUNICIPAL UTILITIES NAMED LIVE HEALTHY IOWA CORPORATE CUP WINNER
Spencer Municipal Utilities (SMU) was awarded the Small Company 2015 Corporate Cup from Live Healthy Iowa. SMU teams had over 66% participation and over 89% completion in the program from participants. 42 SMU employees and spouses participated on 5 teams in the 2015 Live Healthy Iowa Challenge.

Spencer Municipal Utilities (SMU) has been working to renegotiate with several broadcast channels in the SMU cable lineup and the process has come to an end for nearly all networks. As a result, the following channels will be removed from the SMU lineup on Wednesday, December 31st at 11:59pm
