OUR MISSION: KEEPING YOU CONNECTED
In November of 1942, the citizens of Spencer voted to place the management and control of the city’s electric and water utilities in the hands of a Board of Trustees. Thus a new entity-Spencer Municipal Utilities was born. The citizens of Spencer were called to vote again in 1997 to establish a municipal communications utility to be owned and operated on behalf of the citizens by Spencer Municipal Utilities. After the vote on May 6, 1997, SMU added the communications utility for cable, internet and telephone service. SMU continues to provide for the community of Spencer in the years to come with updates to technology and the services we provide.
