SMU’s commercial and industrial customers are urged to attend the upcoming Motor Systems Management Workshop on Thursday, July 7th from 8:00am to 12:30pm.  The event will be held at Clay County Regional Events Center, 800 West 18th Street in Spencer.

The half-day workshop will focus on reducing energy costs and increasing the reliability of motor systems. Motors use more than half of all electricity and their efficiencies contribute significantly to expensive peak demand. This seminar is designed for managers and employees of facilities that use motors, including manufacturing firms, local governments, water and wastewater authorities, hospitals and schools.

A few of the topics covered in the workshop will include: new and emerging motor efficiency standards, advanced motor technologies, adjustable speed drives as well as how to locate resources for additional technical support on motor systems.

The workshop will be taught by Gilbert McCoy from Washington State University and Richard deFay from Copper Development Association.  Together they have conducted dozens of motor efficiency assessments at industrial facilities.

The SMU Motor Systems Management Workshop is free to all SMU customers who use electric motors in their operations as well as to businesses that sell or maintain motors.  Pre-registration is encouraged, so call SMU at 712.580.5800 or email: customerservice@smunet.net.

The Motor Systems Management Workshop was made possible in part by a grant from the Iowa Power Fund.
