Spencer Municipal Utilities has seen multiple water main breaks this week due to the changes in temperature causing movement underground.

“Our staff has been working on four water main breaks so far this week. We are working to get them repaired as quickly as possible,” says Amanda Gloyd, marketing and community relations manager.

When customers are in an area with a water main break, they are often placed on a drinking water advisory once the repair is complete. A drinking water advisory means customers in that area need to boil their water or use an alternative source due to the potential for bacterial contamination. Customers affected by a water main break in Spencer have been notified with a notice at their door.

“We have also contacted customers by phone if we have the correct contact information on their accounts. This is a great time to remind all customers to make sure we have up-to-date contact information so we can reach them in a situation like this if we need to,” adds Gloyd.

Details of the advisories and the areas affected along with details on what to do in a drinking water advisory can also be found on SMU’s website at www.smunet.net.

Spencer Municipal Utilities is a leading provider of cable, internet, and telephone service in the Spencer community and has been providing water since 1886 and electric services since 1901.
