UPDATE 2/18: At this time we are asking our electric customers to continue to practice energy conservation measures for the next 48 hours. We anticipate running our jet turbine through today to provide support to the electric grid and after that it will only run if needed for additional reliability. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and support during this time.

UPDATE 2/17 11:15am: While we don’t anticipate a need to interrupt customers today, we are still encouraging customers to conserve energy.  We are still running our jet turbine at the request of the Southwest Power Pool to provide support to the electric grid.

UPDATE: 2/16 10:20am: At this point in time we have not been notified that we will have to interrupt any customers today.

Southwest Power Pool, Spencer Municipal Utilities regional transmission operator, has issued an emergency electric power alert beginning at 12:00 a.m. Monday, February 15th for 48 hours. We are asking our customers to voluntarily reduce their use of electricity to minimize strain on the electrical grid. Please do not take any steps that endangers your own safety during this time.

The widespread cold temperatures have led to high electrical demand across a large portion of the country. By reducing electric use, you are helping to mitigate the risk of possible power outages. Rolling brown outs or black outs may happen if this gets worse.

You may have heard our jet combustion turbine running over the weekend and this was to help support the grid. We have started generating again today, Monday, February 15th and will be generating as long as possible for support.
