The skyline in South Spencer changed earlier today when Spencer Municipal Utilities south water tower was decommissioned and is no longer standing.
SMU’s south water tower was recently replaced with a new tower that began operating in December of 2020. The water tower was replaced due to structural damage caused by ice during the 2017-2018 winter and the project was funded by an insurance claim.
Spencer Municipal Utilities is a leading provider of cable, internet, and telephone service in the Spencer community and has been providing water since 1886 and electric services since 1901.
