Say Goodbye
to Your VCR!
With SMU's DVR service, you'll take control of your TV!
What
is a Digital Video Recorder?
Digital Video Recorder, or DVR, is the latest
innovation in home entertainment technology. A DVR is a special
cable TV receiver that allows you to record your favorite
programs, as well as pause, rewind, and fast-forward live
TV...all with the ease and convenience of your remote control.
Quite simply, it will change the way you watch TV!
Record
Your Favorite Programs: Let's say you're a
big fan of Jay Leno, but you can't keep your eyes open past
10:30pm. With DVR, it doesn't matter what time the show is
on live, you can record it with the DVR and watch it when
you want! With the enhanced TV Guide InteractiveTM
on-screen guide, it's easy to schedule your recordings and
play them back at your convenience. Record an entire weeks
worth of your favorite daytime dramas and watch them all on
Saturday! Create your own John Wayne movie marathon! Record
the big football game and watch it over and over! YOU'RE IN
CONTROL!
Pause,
Rewind, and Fast-Forward Live TV: It's inevitable...you'll
just be sitting down to watch CSI (Las Vegas, Miami, or New
York...take your pick), and the phone rings. It's your Aunt
Mary who just has to catch up on all the family gossip. With
DVR, you can now give Aunt Mary your full attention. Just
press "II" on your remote control and you will PAUSE
the live TV feed of CSI. When you're done on the phone, press
">" or PLAY and pick right up where you left
off! Then at the next commercial break, you can FAST FORWARD
(>>) through the ads to get back to the show in just
seconds. DVR also allows you to REWIND (<<) if you miss
something. It's like having your own personal instant replay!
Record
One Channel While Watching Another: Let's
say there's a conflict in your living
room...Dad wants to watch Drew Carey on Channel 9 and Mom
wants to watch Law and Order on Channel 4, but they're both
on at the same time. With DVR, domestic bliss is preserved
without one of them being banished to the rec room! You can
simply record one of the programs while watching the other
live, then watch the recorded program later! With DVR, you
can also record two programs at once!
If
you have a HiDef-capable TV, you can add SMU's
HiDef Cable for the ultimate home entertainment
experience!

How
Does DVR Work?
Inside
your DVR cable receiver is a hard drive, just like
one in a computer. But instead of storing data like
documents, this one stores digital video files. SMU's
DVR and store up to 90 hours of regular TV, or up
to 20 hours of High Definition TV (a HDTV-capable
television is required to view HDTV programs).
Your
interface with the DVR is through iGuideTM
Interactive Program Guide, which makes it easy to
schedule recordings and play them back at your convenience.
Your remote control has buttons that are used to operate
the DVR.
Stop
by SMU's office at 712 Grand Avenue in Spencer for
a DVR demonstration, or click here for an online demo.
