The latest edition of Spencer Municipal Utilities’ annual Consumer Confidence Report on water quality has been prepared and is being distributed electronically this year. This is the first year for electronic distribution, rather than mailing directly to customers.

The report provides details of drinking water testing conducted during the calendar year 2012. SMU regularly tests over 80 drinking water contaminants, and the 2012 data again shows no violations of EPA rules for water quality.

“Our wells are based in an aquifer that is a high quality source which we improve for our customers with lime softening and disinfection,” says Amanda Gloyd, SMU marketing & community relations manager. In addition to showing the result of water testing from last year, the Consumer Confidence Report also gives customers details on SMU’s water source, treatment methods, and other important health information.

Customers will notice a bill message at the end of May and June to direct them to the online version of the report. For customers without internet access, they are welcome to contact SMU for a paper copy. Copies of the report are also available at the SMU Customer Service Center at 712 Grand Avenue.

Spencer Municipal Utilities is a leading provider of cable, Internet, telephone and cellular service through i wireless in the Spencer community and has been providing water since 1886 and electric services since 1901.
